French reject internet piracy law
This is only a temporary victory since it is believed that this law will be re-voted on and pass next week. This law is a 3-strikes policy that disconnects someone from the Internet for 1-year if they are caught illegally file-sharing. All in the name of preserving culture and arts in France. President Sarkozy do you really want to disconnect your citizens from the most important source of information today? Especially all of those who will no doubt be wrongfully accused?
The real kicker here is that Media companies will be in charge of Internet surveillance, broadband providers will be required to supply the name of the offending IP owner and a Government agency will send 2 warning notices and then hit the kill switch.
