Before The Singularity: IBM CEO on Lessons & Opportunities in Internet of Things
Palmisano noted one of the key points about Internet of Things early in his speech - it puts computational power into “things no one would recognize as computers.” Things like “cars, appliances, roadways and rail lines, power grids, clothes.” He also mentioned processes and global supply chains, non-sexy markets that have proven to be early commercial successes for the company in Internet of Things. Finally, Palmisano pointed to implementation in “natural systems, such as agriculture and waterways.”

Before The Singularity: World’s first 3D office photocopier launches
Wow, 3D photocopies…
Ortery has launched a new office machine called ‘Photosimile’ or what it claims to be the world’s first 3D product photography machine.
Photosimile is effectively a photocopier that creates virtual 3D replicas of whatever small artifact you like. Or animal (providing they sit still while the machine spins them around 360 degrees, that is!).
“What we were doing, virtual production in a virtual world, right now it’s at a business to business level,” said Jon Landau, the producer of “Avatar.” “Ultimately, it’s going to be at a consumer level. People (will) go in and record their stories and present their stories, just like they do (now) with YouTube. Virtual worlds are another avenue for people to be creative and tell stories.”
